History of John Cabot University

Established in 1956, the theater began its journey as a modest community space within the bustling downtown area. Originally named after the city’s renowned playwright, Samuel Westwood, the theater aimed to promote local talent and provide a platform for aspiring actors and directors. Over the years, it evolved into a prominent cultural hub, hosting a myriad of performances ranging from classical plays to avant-garde productions. In 1978, the theater underwent a significant renovation, expanding its seating capacity and modernizing its facilities to accommodate larger audiences and more elaborate stage productions. This revitalization marked a new chapter in the theater’s history, solidifying its status as a cornerstone of the city’s vibrant arts scene.

The university features three campuses in Rome’s Trastevere neighborhood: the Frank J. Guarini Campus, the Frohring Campus, and the Caroline Critelli Guarini Campus by the Tiber River.
